BALL Joseph

Joseph ‘Joe’ Lemon Ball (1893-1967) married Mary Wray in Katanning in 1917.
Mary was born at Eticup in 1891, the daughter of Mr William Plumpton Wray and his wife Agnes Charlotte nee Young.
The family owned ‘Roundwood’ a property near Broomehill. Mary grew up with her siblings Bill, Dave and Margaret.
Mary and Joe farmed their property named ‘Braeburn’.
They had five children: Hazel (who died before her second birthday), Edith, William ‘Billie’, Agnes, Joseph and another child.
Tragedy struck the family again with the death of Agnes in 1932 aged 7 years at the Gnowangerup Hospital following bleeding after having her tonsils removed.
Joseph died in 1940 aged 20 years.
Mary was a solitary person and spent a lot of her time on the farm caring for the chooks and milking the cows, making butter and cooking.
